Gulfstream appoints Smitha Hariharan as chief sustainability officer and vice-president

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has named Smitha Hariharan as vice president and chief sustainability officer, effective immediately. In this new role, Hariharan will lead Gulfstream’s sustainable transformation, aligning business strategies with sustainability principles to create long-term value.

Previously, Hariharan was the global head of sustainability at Halliburton Energy Services, where she developed and led their sustainability strategy. Her role included overseeing governance, benchmark data, and stakeholder engagements.

Gulfstream is committed to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon dioxide emissions by 40% by 2034, relative to 2019. The company’s next-generation fleet offers fuel-efficiency gains of up to 33% over predecessor models. Since 2014, Gulfstream has cut greenhouse gas emissions by 18% while expanding facilities by 30%.

In November 2023, Gulfstream achieved a milestone with the world’s first trans-Atlantic flight on 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in both engines. “Gulfstream is innovating for a sustainable future,” added Burns. “We are committed to advancing the industry to achieve our shared sustainability goals.”

Earlier this year, Gulfstream joined the International Aerospace Environmental Group (IAEG) supplier assessment initiative to manage ESG risk and compliance. This initiative guides the sustainability performance improvement of its supply chain. All Gulfstream suppliers will now share their sustainability strategies to identify ESG risks and improve overall sustainability performance.

This voluntary program aims to accelerate sustainability improvements within the aerospace industry, creating a more sustainable and resilient supply chain for the future.
