Nuveen has named seasoned professional Ted Maa as their Managing Director of Private Equity Impact Investing.
Nuveen, a globally recognised investment manager, has an enduring legacy of championing sustainable financial solutions. Last year, they underlined this commitment with the inception of the Nuveen Global Impact Fund, LP, an innovative fund that concentrates on investments tackling monumental sustainable development issues such as climate change and income disparity.
Ted Maa, now at the helm of Nuveen’s Private Equity Impact Investing division, is tasked with the pivotal role of pinpointing, finalising, and managing direct private equity investments in pivotal impact sectors. Guided by Rekha Unnithan, the Head of Private Impact Investing, Maa’s expertise will no doubt be invaluable.
Before stepping into this new role, Maa distinguished himself at Pine Brook, serving as a Partner on the Energy Team. Here, he not only led investments in traditional energy companies but also masterminded the firm’s transition into the energy and climate sectors. He was instrumental in instituting ESG and decarbonisation initiatives within Pine Brook’s conventional energy portfolio.

Earlier in his career, Maa showcased his prowess on Denham Capital’s private equity team, delving into diverse sectors ranging from biofuels and waste-to-value to conventional energy infrastructure and services.
Nuveen’s appointment of Maa comes on the back of the launch of their first private equity impact fund, the Nuveen Global Impact Fund, LP, which underscores their commitment to addressing global sustainable development challenges.
