RWE, the third-largest renewable energy company in the U.S., has secured two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta. These agreements will provide a combined capacity of 374 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity from two solar farms currently under construction.
Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, emphasized the significance of this partnership: “RWE’s continued investment in the U.S. renewables market is underpinned by new opportunities to partner with leading technology companies like Meta, which are driving demand for clean energy to support their operations.” This collaboration aligns with RWE’s broader strategy to enhance its U.S. renewables portfolio and meet the growing demand for clean energy.
Onsite construction is ongoing at RWE’s 274 MW County Run Solar project in Illinois and its 100 MW Lafitte Solar project in Louisiana. These projects are slated for completion by late 2025, with Lafitte Solar marking RWE’s first venture into renewable energy in Louisiana.

Urvi Parekh, Head of Renewable Energy at Meta, highlighted the importance of these developments: “Partnering with renewable energy providers like RWE to bring new solar energy projects online is an important part of our approach to energy procurement. We are excited to scale our renewable energy contracts, and this collaboration is an important demonstration of those efforts and our commitment to match 100% of the electricity use of our data centers and offices with renewable energy.“
The partnership between RWE and Meta reflects a growing trend among major tech companies to source renewable energy for their operations. It also reinforces RWE’s role in driving the U.S. renewable energy market forward, contributing to both environmental goals and local economic development.
