Walmart and Sam’s Club are committed to making sustainable choices easier for everyone. Recognizing that 78% of consumers prioritize sustainability, the company leverages its vast reach to offer various solutions. This includes product innovation, responsible packaging, recycling initiatives, and budget-friendly options that promote eco-conscious habits every day, not just on Earth Day.

Energy Heroes: Saving Money and the Planet

Collaborations with recognized brands like Tide’s “Collab for Cold” campaign exemplify this approach. Washing clothes in cold water saves energy and money, according to Procter & Gamble. Walmart stores and clubs also offer a wide selection of Energy Star certified products and are investing in community solar programs that benefit low-to-moderate-income households. For Walmart Plus members, electric vehicles used for InHome delivery services are reducing the company’s environmental footprint.

Right-Sized Packaging: Less Waste, More Convenience

Walmart is actively working with suppliers to reduce packaging waste. The company eliminated Styrofoam packaging for its private brand microwaves, saving an estimated 2,000 metric tons of plastic annually. Snorkel sets now come in reusable travel bags, and private brand bedding is transitioning to plastic-free packaging by 2025. E-commerce operations are focused on right-sizing packaging, consolidating shipments, and using paper mailers for online orders.

New Life: Circularity in Action

Walmart and Sam’s Club promote circularity by giving new life to used materials. The Trashie Take Back Bag program allows customers to easily donate unwanted clothing and textiles for reuse or recycling. Recycled rubber is being used in home and garden products like Member’s Mark Rubber Mulch and Ground Smart Black Rubber Nugget Mulch.

Built for Better: Sustainable Shopping Made Easy

Launched in 2021, Built for Better is an online platform that simplifies finding sustainable products meeting trusted standards for personal well-being and environmental responsibility. Additionally, Walmart Restored, introduced in 2022, allows customers to purchase refurbished products from qualified sellers, promoting waste reduction and affordability.
