Walmart is expanding its drone delivery service to Dallas, partnering with Wing, an on-demand drone delivery provider powered by Google’s parent company, Alphabet. The service will be offered from two stores in the Dallas metro area in the coming months, enabling Walmart to reach an additional 60,000 homes.

The expansion is a major milestone for Walmart’s drone delivery program, which was first launched in 2021. The company has been testing the service in several states, and it has completed more than 10,000 safe deliveries.

Working with Wing directly aligns with Walmarts passion for finding innovative and eco-friendly last-mile delivery solutions to get customers the items they want, when they want them. Wing’s drones can fly beyond visual line of sight, which allows them to deliver packages to customers living within an approximate 6-mile range of the stores that offer the service.

This is an exciting next step for Walmart’s drone delivery program, and it is a sign of the growing momentum of this technology. Drone delivery has the potential to revolutionize the way we shop and receive deliveries, and Walmart is leading the way in this space.

The first store to offer the service will be the Walmart Supercenter at 8555 Preston Road in Frisco, Texas. Once operations begin, customers can download the Wing app from the  App Store or Google Play  and enter their address to determine if their home is within the Wing drone delivery range. Customers will be able to order items like frozen treats (when those ice cream cravings hit), household essentials, last-minute meal solutions, and even fragile items like eggs.

This is a great way for Walmart to provide its customers with a convenient, environmentally friendly and innovative way to get the items they need. Drone delivery is a fast-growing technology, and it is clear that the sky is the limit for this industry.

Here are some of the environmental benefits of drone delivery:

  • Drones can fly directly to the customer’s home, eliminating the need for trucks to make multiple stops. This can reduce traffic congestion and emissions.
  • Drones are powered by electric motors, which produce zero emissions.
  • Drones can deliver packages more quietly than trucks, which can reduce noise pollution.
