SUMMARY:World Interfaith Harmony Week
DESCRIPTION:Uniting for peace\nWorld Interfaith Harmony Week is an annual event observed during the first week of February\, since the General Assembly designation in 2010. The General Assembly pointed out that mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace and established World Interfaith Harmony Week as a way to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith. \nRecognizing the imperative need for dialogue among different faiths and religions to enhance mutual understanding\, harmony and cooperation among people\, the General Assembly encourages all States to spread the message of interfaith harmony and goodwill in the world’s churches\, mosques\, synagogues\, temples and other places of worship during that week\, on a voluntary basis and according to their own religious traditions or convictions. \nOrigin and history\nWorld Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW)\, conceived to promote a culture peace and nonviolence\, was first proposed by King Abdullah II of Jordan at the United Nations in 2010. This was quickly adopted by the UN General Assembly (resolution A/RES/65/5)\, declaring the first week of February each year as World Interfaith Harmony week\, calling on governments\, institutions and civil society to observe it with various programs and initiatives that would promote the aim of the WIHW objectives. \nShealyn Brannon

SUMMARY:The S in ESG
DESCRIPTION:About This Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSocial metrics are an important indicator of ESG performance. In Part 3 of our Comprehensive ESG Masterclass series\, our ESG experts will take a closer look at the ‘Social’ pillar in ESG and explore the social factors that can affect a company’s ESG performance – from the gender composition of your workforce to the health and safety implications of your product and human rights practices across your supply chain. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHowever\, not all inputs for social metrics can be quantified and data under the social pillar needs to be compiled from across multiple enterprise-wide sources. Join us as we explore how you can identify the social metrics material to your organization\, set KPIs to evaluate social performance\, and leverage digital tools to seamlessly connect diverse sources of social data in your organization and bring them onto a single enterprise-wide platform. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://twitter.com/BM_ESG_Gensuite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShealyn Brannon

SUMMARY:2nd Asia Pacific Environmental Human Rights Defenders Forum
DESCRIPTION:Environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs) are at the forefront of the triple planetary crises of pollution\, biodiversity loss\, and climate change. All EHRDs\, as individuals and groups who\, in their personal or professional capacity and in a peaceful manner\, strive to protect and promote human rights relating to the environment\, including water\, air\, land\, flora\, and fauna1\, play an essential role in protecting the environment\, supporting the rights of communities to participate in environmental decision making and calling out unsustainable development practices and illegal actions causing environmental harm. Their role is central to realizing the right to a clean\, healthy and sustainable environment: a right that has recently been given universal recognition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing a landmark resolution adopted at the Human Rights Council in 20212\, on 28 July 2022 the United Nations General Assembly recognized\, for the first time\, that a clean\, healthy\, and sustainable environment is a universal human right3. The General Assembly resolution affirms the importance of a clean\, healthy and sustainable environment for the enjoyment of all human rights\, and calls upon States\, international organizations\, business enterprises\, and other relevant stakeholders to scale up efforts to ensure a clean\, healthy\, and sustainable environment for all. There is no time more critical to support and champion the role of EHRDs than now\, to ensure that the right to a healthy environment is implemented for everyone everywhere. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnvironmental defenders continue to be at the forefront of environmental protection\, holding governments and businesses to account for environmental harms and upholding the rights of those most affected by environmental degradation. Environmental defenders fill a vital gap in spotlighting the inaction of primary duty-bearers. Despite the crucial contribution from environmental human rights defenders\, they are rarely recognised and often neglected as significant drivers of sustainable and just social and environmental progress. Instead of lauding the actions of EHRDs\, they are instead frequently subject to violent attacks and reprisals\, stigmatization\, arbitrary detention\, and lawsuits. Environmental defenders who may be activists\, journalists\, Indigenous peoples\, and members of local communities\, who are at the forefront of sustainable development and good environmental governance\, are often targeted and harassed. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmong the 615 human rights defender attacks linked to Business and Human Rights tracked in 2021\, nearly 70% were against climate\, land\, and environmental rights defenders4. Data demonstrated that while attacks against EHRDs happen in every region of the world\, Asia Pacific was the most affected region in 2021 with 247 cases. Most attacks occurred in India (49) and the Philippines (44). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by UNEP\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShealyn Brannon
