SUMMARY:Nature’s Frontiers: Achieving Sustainability\, Efficiency\, and Prosperity with Natural Capital
DESCRIPTION:Nearly all types of natural capital—the world’s stock of resources provided by nature—are in decline. The ecosystem services that flow from those natural capital assets – such as fertile soils for crops\, rich ocean life supporting tourism and productive fisheries\, and dense forests for carbon capture – are necessary for life on Earth. \nRecognizing the essential services provided by natural capital\, Nature’s Frontiers: Achieving Sustainability\, Efficiency\, and Prosperity with Natural Capital proposes a novel approach to address these foundational challenges of sustainability. A methodology combining innovative science\, new data sources\, and cutting-edge biophysical and economic models builds sustainable resource efficiency frontiers to assess how countries can sustainably use their natural capital in more efficient ways. The analysis provides recommendations on how countries can better utilize their natural capital to achieve their economic and environmental goals. \nJoin for a presentation from the authors and a panel discussion on the country-level applications of this work. \nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:World Bank Tokyo Online Morning Seminar #172 “The Effect of Multinational Enterprises on Climate Change: Supply Chain Emissions\, Green Technology Transfers\, and Corporate Commitments”
DESCRIPTION:Multinational enterprises (MNEs) provide both a fundamental risk to and an opportunity for climate change mitigation. The climate ambitions of MNEs will affect the environmental performance of countries around the world. As a leading actor\, proactive MNEs can impose sustainability standards or encourage green technology transfers that\, in some cases\, could affect millions of producers and accelerate the climate transition. However\, obstructive MNEs may equally hold back any progress to reduce a country’s emissions via inaction or by actively resisting\, obstructing\, or lobbying against change. It is critical for policymakers around the world to consider the role that MNEs play in climate change mitigation strategies\, monitor their current commitment to transition their supply chains to net-zero emissions by 2050\, and adopt the necessary measures to accelerate this transition. To guide this endeavor\, the World Bank\, in partnership with CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) have developed a new report “The Effect of Multinational Enterprises on Climate Change: Supply Chain Emissions\, Green Technology Transfers\, and Corporate Commitments” that provides insights into MNEs’ impact on climate change. \nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:DAVOS 2024 | World Economic Forum
DESCRIPTION:People\, societies and companies face the reality of a world in transformation. In addition to the seemingly endless supply of shocks\, with the tragic violence in the Middle East being the most recent\, deep structural shifts are clearly afoot from geoeconomics to climate change to artificial intelligence. Given this level of uncertainty and the high stakes involved\, there is a clear need to move past the diagnosis of challenges firmly towards solutions. \n\n\nWith trust eroding\, long-term visions may be too abstract to rally around\, while merely focusing on responses to current shocks will leave everyone vulnerable to the transformations at hand. What is needed are new and upgraded platforms for dialogue\, stronger partnerships\, agile policy frameworks and effective deployment of technologies that can lead to practical and implementable gains for societies across both short-term and strategic horizons. \n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:ACCELERATING DECARBONIZATION ACROSS INDUSTRIES IN THE US
DESCRIPTION:How can collaboration and digitalization drive the infrastructure transition?\n\n\nWebinar | Thursday April 11 | 13:00 – 13:50 ET\n\n\n\nThe adoption of sustainable practices and processes is increasingly viewed as a competitive advantage as well as an environmental and social responsibility. Leaders across industries are working to adapt their business models and accelerate the transition to net zero. However\, executives’ confidence in achieving decarbonization targets is low. According to Siemens’ Infrastructure Transition Monitor research carried out by FT Longitude\, only 15% of respondents believe they are very likely to reach their emission goals for the year ahead. \nIn addition\, some of the sectors that are aiding the shift away from fossil fuels\, including battery and semiconductor production\, and EV manufacturing and charging\, are actually contributing to the pressure on infrastructure and electricity supply. Digital technologies\, such as AI capabilities\, are accelerating positive change\, yet the rapid expansion of data centers is also increasing power demand. The IEA estimates that power consumption at data facilities makes up 1-1.5% of overall global energy use. \nNo one entity can meet corporate sustainability commitments alone; it takes an ecosystem of energy-intensive industries\, utilities and technology partners working together to reach a solution. \nThis panel on Accelerating Decarbonization Across Industries in the US\, hosted by the Financial Times in partnership with Siemens\, is for corporate leaders working on emissions reduction and business growth. The discussion will consider how to work together across industries to find effective ways to utilize technology in order to speed up the infrastructure transition and reach sustainability goals. \n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance.
