SUMMARY:European Digital Identity Wallet: What are the ingredients for success?
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLast June\, the European Commission proposed a breakthrough novelty: a European Digital Identity Wallet. Every Member State shall issue a Wallet for citizens and businesses to identify and authenticate online. Member States are already drafting together a common architecture to ensure interoperability and mutual trust across the EU. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis European Digital Identity Wallet could be a silent revolution in the digital world. Through the Wallet\, users should be able to securely store and share\, on request and under their sole control\, identification data\, as well as credentials/attributes (e.g. driving licence\, diploma). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe use of the Wallet is voluntary; hence a wide uptake is not necessarily guaranteed. One must keep in mind that other solutions are available on the market. Thus\, the future European Digital Identity Wallet needs to be attractive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat could then ensure the widest possible uptake? The best security and privacy features? Relying on international standards? Or simply user-friendliness? SUMMARY:Skills in the digital world: a path towards inclusive transformation
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSkills are increasingly becoming the differentiating factor between haves and have-nots in the digitized world. The process has been accelerated in the past two years with the coronavirus pandemic forcing people of all ages and backgrounds to quickly learn new competencies\, in particular related to digital technologies. While the disruption brought about by the pandemic enabled some to quickly acquire new skills\, it has also exacerbated existing gaps such as gender disparities and inequalities in access to digital infrastructure by rural and low-income communities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSkilling efforts are a clear focus of the EU with initiatives such as the Pact for Skills and the European Skills Agenda aimed at promoting investment in improving existing skills (up-skilling) and acquiring new skills (re-skilling). Similarly\, digital skills are a key priority with the recent Path to the Digital Decade setting out a concrete target of 20 million employed ICT specialists in the EU by 2030\, with convergence between women and men. The European Parliament in its own-initiative Report on shaping digital education policy underlined the importance of not leaving anyone behind\, which was recently ingrained in the Solidarity and Inclusion principle proposed as part of the declaration on European digital rights and principles. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt this EIF event\, we will take stock of the progress made in the past year and examine concrete outcomes of the initiatives proposed by the European Commission to foster skills development in Europe\, with particular focus on digital skills. The discussion will also cover the role of skills in democratizing access to opportunities in the labour market as well as the need to ensure equitable access to up-skilling\, re-skilling\, and digital competences. The debate will also explore the need for a better understanding of the state and availability of skills across the EU and the role of digital technologies in facilitating a more informed\, data-driven skilling effort. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening remarks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVictor Negrescu MEP and EIF Steering Committee Members \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nManuela Geleng\, Director for Jobs and Skills\, DG EMPL\, European Commission \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTatjana Babrauskiene\, Member of the European Economic and Social Committee; Head of International Relations\, Lithuanian Education and Science Trade Union \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJens-Henrik Jeppesen\, Director Public Policy EMEA\, Workday \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nITU Representative – name tbc \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModerator\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaria Rosa Gibellini\, Director General\, European Internet Forum \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExchange of views with the participants under the Chatham House rule \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMatt BirdMatt Bird is the Founder\, CEO\, and Editor-in-Chief of ESG News. SUMMARY:Commercialising Quantum 2022
DESCRIPTION:Commercialising Quantum: What does a “quantum future” mean?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCommercialising Quantum is coming sooner than you think. The potential for quantum to transform business is so great\, with the technology advancing so rapidly\, that every business leader must prepare for its impact. Companies and investors are already hunting for a “quantum advantage”—a way in which even today’s error-prone unstable machines might have an impact on their bottom lines. Within two to three years\, advances dreamed up by quantum scientists could yield real-world applications\, with the finance industry likely to be an early adopter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur inaugural event will provide an understanding of how the technology will work\, the kinds of problems it could help solve\, and how leaders may harness its potential and identify investments that offer the best business outcomes for the future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoston Consulting Group foresees quantum computers improving the operating income of their users by between $450bn and $850bn a year by 2050. Increasing hype around quantum computing has made it difficult to separate viable applications in the short-term from longer-term possibilities that may not emerge or are still years or decades away. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur event aims to set a clear\, balanced and hype-free agenda of what is real\, what is not and what can be done to gain a quantum advantage. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom industry:CEO\, CSO\, CTO\, CIO\, CMO\, COOChief transformation officersChief digital officersHead of data scienceMachine learning departmentAI departments\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom government:Head of policy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom academia:Professor of quantum computing\, physics\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom manufacturing:Hardware vendors showcasing cutting-edge technology\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by EconomistEvents\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://esgnews.com/category/technology/ \n\n\nMatt BirdMatt Bird is the Founder\, CEO\, and Editor-in-Chief of ESG News. SUMMARY:Pharma Clinical 2022
DESCRIPTION:The home of clinical collaboration.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe pandemic response has accelerated technology adoption in clinical trials\, but we have neglected patient needs by failing to develop co-created\, data-driven\, standardised and accountable trial designs.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the face of rethinking clinical strategy\, our mission is clear: it’s time to develop a better system. We must establish new industry-wide benchmarks now\, leverage recent digital innovations\, and ensure permanent cultural change toward patient- centric trials. If we do not act immediately\, we risk losing this opportunity to rebuild patient trust. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is why we are bringing together the world’s clinical leadership at Reuters Events: Pharma Clinical 2022 (May 17-19\, Virtual). We aim to define the new standards in digital innovation for clinical transformation. Join 1000+ clinical innovators and 40 + expert speakers to create an accountable clinical ecosystem where patient diversity\, centricity and empowerment aren’t just slogans – they are core principles.    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by Reuters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMatt BirdMatt Bird is the Founder\, CEO\, and Editor-in-Chief of ESG News.
