SUMMARY:Transforming Global Supply Chains: The Road to Resilience and Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:About This Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn a world characterised by disruption and unprecedented change\, supply-chain and procurement strategies are in a period of upheaval. Companies face a multiplying set of risks\, including conflict\, inflation\, climate change\, shifting regulations and shortages of labour and materials. Today’s supply chains must be robust\, not just efficient. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBusinesses are reassessing their entire value chain and must decide where to invest to increase resilience. This includes reducing financial risk\, building capabilities closer to consumer markets and maintaining multiple sourcing options in case of disruption. Meanwhile\, sustainability is a bigger priority for businesses\, in line with regulation\, reputational risk\, corporate social responsibility goals and\, ultimately\, competitive advantage. Although supply-chain and scope 3 emissions can account for up to 90% of a company’s total\, many organisations are already struggling to meet their direct emissions targets. Where do they start as they try to transform their supply chains? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin chief executives and board leaders for a roundtable discussion\, programmed by Economist Impact and supported by GEP\, to address pressing questions including: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat global trends will have the biggest impact on supply chains in the near-to mid-term? \n\n\n\nHow can businesses embed resilience into their supply chains–what’s working and what isn’t? \n\n\n\nWhere should companies focus immediate efforts to reduce scope 3 emissions? \n\n\n\nHow can companies leverage global supply chain advantages while decreasing exposure to risk?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by EconomistEvents\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:Carbon Markets after COP27: Emerging\, Growing and Maturing?
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh proved that digital technologies can enhance carbon markets and be a valuable agent for change. For example\, the Climate Warehouse is a World Bank initiative that aims to build an end-to-end digital ecosystem for carbon markets: based on blockchain technology. Consequently\, there is an increasing consensus between the potential convergence of the voluntary carbon market and the carbon market set out by Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArticle 6 of the Paris Agreement would standardize legislation enabling countries to achieve their national climate targets by buying carbon offset credits. Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are a crucial feature of the Paris agreement and were one of the hot topics at this year’s COP27. NDCs are a type of pledge: they represent the climate actions that countries will take to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The hope is that international rules backed by the entire world could attract large private capital flows to carbon-reducing projects. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAltogether\, the voluntary carbon market experienced some ups and downs this year. There is still a lot to be done to reach mainstream utilization. Together with experts from the ECOTA\, we will elaborate on the main developments of the VCM this year\, outcomes of COP27 and any hurdles to scale carbon markets. In this context\, our panelists will also discuss potential trends and carbon market developments in 2023. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat have been the main developments of the voluntary carbon market in 2022?\n\n\n\nWhat is the impact of COP27 on the voluntary carbon market?\n\n\n\nHow will the voluntary carbon market grow in 2023?\n\n\n\nCan blockchain technology provide a foundation for scaling the voluntary carbon market and carbon market mechanisms under the Paris Agreement?\n\n\n\nCan the compliance and voluntary carbon markets evolve together in order to scale truly global carbon markets?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by fsblockchain\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:Sustainable Africa: Investment\, Innovation\, and the Future of Global Trade
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of the great economic challenges across Africa and the Global South has been how to leverage natural resources and human capital toward widespread industrialization\, entrepreneurship\, and job creation. As emerging markets worldwide enter a new era of hyper-industrialization driven by advanced technologies and a focus on sustainability\, countries like Namibia are now positioned to advance key sectors like Energy\, Mining\, and Agriculture higher up the value chain. What is required from investors and international business leaders to reshape global supply chains towards sustainability goals and support the transition to technologies such as batteries and hydrogen? How is the Namibian government creating policy frameworks to encourage foreign investment into these sectors and beyond? And what do investors from the US and across the world need to understand about the potential for the African continent to deliver significant value across emerging sectors of the global economy and help scale these innovations around the world? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by BloombergLive\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:Greener cities\, cooler planet\, healthier people: unleashing the power of urban nature
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCity life is becoming the default human experience. While being engines for development\, exchange and opportunity\, cities and their expected growth are also exacerbating some of the world’s most serious environmental challenges\, including rising temperatures\, biodiversity loss and land use change. Cities will have to handle increasing climate risks: by 2050\, 1.6 billion city residents will face extreme heat and by 2100\, cities around the world could warm by 4°C on average\, exposing the growing urban population to conditions that will damage human health\, productivity\, and quality of life. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo make peace with nature and beat the rising heat\, we need to design and redesign our urban environments with nature in mind. The good news is that protecting and restoring natural ecosystems can help improve quality of life in cities. Nature-based solutions can provide natural cooling\, better air and water quality\, and healthier communities\, but the benefits and ecosystem services that biodiversity provides need to be better understood and leveraged to increase implementation and bring about change at a local and global level.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis session will focus on the role of nature as an adaptation tool\, and how national and local governments can provide access to cooling while mitigating climate risks and supporting biodiversity. The discussion will enable exchanges between global experts\, countries and cities on the opportunities to catalyze restoration in the framework of urban planning. It will include announcements on cities’ commitments to the Nature for Cool Cities Challenge\, and on global collaboration in the framework of the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration. A dedicated exchange will take place on nature financing\, and on the latest efforts to track urban nature investments. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by UNEP\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:COP15 - Call for Financing Nature for Sustainable Cities and Regions
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCities are on the frontline of managing the direct socio-economic impacts of climate change and ecosystem loss. Today\, 4.4 billion people live in cities\, and 1.4 billion of these people already face high climate risks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRestoring and protecting nature is fundamental to addressing the impacts of climate change\, bringing multiple benefits not only to ecosystems but also to the health and well-being of urban citizens and the economy. Urban nature-based solutions are both critical and feasible steps that cities can initiate right now to contribute to global biodiversity goals and increase resilience to local environmental risks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBut to unleash the power of nature in cities\, investments need to grow rapidly. In this press conference\, champion Mayors from around the world will deliver a call for increased financing for nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based approaches in cities and regions\, on behalf of 15 champion cities. A new UNEP project to support them will be announced. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by UNEP\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance.
