SUMMARY:Skills in the digital world: a path towards inclusive transformation
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSkills are increasingly becoming the differentiating factor between haves and have-nots in the digitized world. The process has been accelerated in the past two years with the coronavirus pandemic forcing people of all ages and backgrounds to quickly learn new competencies\, in particular related to digital technologies. While the disruption brought about by the pandemic enabled some to quickly acquire new skills\, it has also exacerbated existing gaps such as gender disparities and inequalities in access to digital infrastructure by rural and low-income communities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSkilling efforts are a clear focus of the EU with initiatives such as the Pact for Skills and the European Skills Agenda aimed at promoting investment in improving existing skills (up-skilling) and acquiring new skills (re-skilling). Similarly\, digital skills are a key priority with the recent Path to the Digital Decade setting out a concrete target of 20 million employed ICT specialists in the EU by 2030\, with convergence between women and men. The European Parliament in its own-initiative Report on shaping digital education policy underlined the importance of not leaving anyone behind\, which was recently ingrained in the Solidarity and Inclusion principle proposed as part of the declaration on European digital rights and principles. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt this EIF event\, we will take stock of the progress made in the past year and examine concrete outcomes of the initiatives proposed by the European Commission to foster skills development in Europe\, with particular focus on digital skills. The discussion will also cover the role of skills in democratizing access to opportunities in the labour market as well as the need to ensure equitable access to up-skilling\, re-skilling\, and digital competences. The debate will also explore the need for a better understanding of the state and availability of skills across the EU and the role of digital technologies in facilitating a more informed\, data-driven skilling effort. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening remarks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVictor Negrescu MEP and EIF Steering Committee Members \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nManuela Geleng\, Director for Jobs and Skills\, DG EMPL\, European Commission \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTatjana Babrauskiene\, Member of the European Economic and Social Committee; Head of International Relations\, Lithuanian Education and Science Trade Union \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJens-Henrik Jeppesen\, Director Public Policy EMEA\, Workday \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nITU Representative – name tbc \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModerator\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaria Rosa Gibellini\, Director General\, European Internet Forum \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExchange of views with the participants under the Chatham House rule \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:European Digital Identity Wallet: What are the ingredients for success?
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLast June\, the European Commission proposed a breakthrough novelty: a European Digital Identity Wallet. Every Member State shall issue a Wallet for citizens and businesses to identify and authenticate online. Member States are already drafting together a common architecture to ensure interoperability and mutual trust across the EU. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis European Digital Identity Wallet could be a silent revolution in the digital world. Through the Wallet\, users should be able to securely store and share\, on request and under their sole control\, identification data\, as well as credentials/attributes (e.g. driving licence\, diploma). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe use of the Wallet is voluntary; hence a wide uptake is not necessarily guaranteed. One must keep in mind that other solutions are available on the market. Thus\, the future European Digital Identity Wallet needs to be attractive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat could then ensure the widest possible uptake? The best security and privacy features? Relying on international standards? Or simply user-friendliness? Which “other ingredients” would you add? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur distinguished speakers will give their views on these questions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen remarks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAndrus Ansip MEP and EIF Steering Committee Member \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRomana Jerkovic MEP\, EP rapporteur on the European Digital Identity\, EIF Member \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLorena Boix Alonso\, Director for Digital Society\, Trust & Cybersecurity\, DG CNECT\, European Commission \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlban Feraud\, President of Eurosmart \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Jens Bender\, Division Manager\, Federal Office for Information Security \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModerator\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaria Rosa Gibellini\, Director General\, European Internet Forum \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExchange of views with the participants under the Chatham House rule\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:All you need is trust: strengthening confidence in business relationships
DESCRIPTION:In today’s interconnected world\, trust within and between businesses is continually put to the test. Suppliers need businesses to trust that they will deliver goods and services on time. Corporate customers need to trust that businesses are safeguarding their data. And businesses must trust that suppliers are upholding workplace standards and ethics. But with supply chains and business units spread across the globe\, and most transactions\, trades and negotiations taking place remotely\, it has become ever harder for businesses to build and maintain trust.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs any business leader knows\, trust is built slowly and over time\, but it can be broken almost overnight. And where it fails\, businesses stand to lose not just profits and reputation\, but human capital too. But while business leaders say they recognise the importance of trust\, there appears to be an action gap. A PwC survey of 503 business executives in the US revealed that 50% of the companies surveyed had not defined what trust meant to their business\, and even fewer had embedded it as part of their business strategy.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCovid-19 demonstrated starkly the disruptive effects of a global crisis\, and the strains and expectations placed on business as a result. With companies navigating an increasing number of everyday threats\, from the impacts of climate change to rising cybersecurity risks\, businesses need to be able to rely on their relationships to ride out the storms. Trust can be a powerful tool in the corporate arsenal\, but strategic thinking is required to place it front and centre in business strategy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgrammed by Economist Impact and sponsored by Icertis\, this webinar will convene business representatives\, consultants and thought leaders to examine how companies can strengthen trust in business-to-business relationships to improve profits\, performance and resilience.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe questions we will seek to address include:  \n\n\n\n● Is there a trust deficit in business-to-business relationships? How did covid-19 impact trust in business relationships?  \n\n\n\n● To what extent can trust be defined\, quantified and measured?  \n\n\n\n● What are the key drivers of trust within a business? What factors do stakeholders value most?  \n\n\n\n● How can businesses put trust at the centre of their corporate purpose and business strategies? What lessons can be learned and applied?  \n\n\n\n● To what extent is trust a determinant of business success? How can trust improve business performance and outcomes? \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance. SUMMARY:7th Annual Sustainability Week
DESCRIPTION:Annual Sustainability Week Accelerating transition\, building resilience!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7th Annual Sustainability Week \n\n\n\nThe world is not transitioning to net zero fast enough. Extreme weather events of the past year—with average global warming at 1.1°C over pre-industrial levels—are just a taste of what could lie down the road. If countries fail to become carbon-neutral by 2050\, limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5°C will not be possible. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is the decade to deliver. Business leaders need to respond more aggressively to meet ambitious targets for mitigating climate change. Governments need to invest in climate-resilient infrastructure while reducing social inequalities that have been highlighted by the covid-19 pandemic. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFour months on from COP26\, the seventh edition of Economist Impact’s Sustainability Week will examine how existing policy and regulatory frameworks have addressed climate change\, and the progress made so far on emission-reduction commitments. Bringing together industry leaders\, policymakers\, entrepreneurs and researchers from around the world\, the event will assess how society can take a more holistic approach to sustainability in order to achieve targets and deliver significant impact. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSenior sustainability and CSR professionals from all industriesBusiness leaders and executives (managers\, directors\, c-suite) from all industriesImpact investors / responsible investorsESG reporting agenciesCharities and organisations with an interest in sustainability issuesSustainability and climate academics e.g. researchers and professorsRelevant government bodies\, departments and policymakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFind out more about the 2021 event audience here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTweets by EconomistEvents\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://esgnews.com/category/sustainability/ \n\n\nESG News Editorial TeamThe ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time\, objective reporting on global ESG regulations\, climate finance\, and corporate governance.
