IBM and L’Oréal have teamed up to create an industry-first AI foundation model designed to revolutionize cosmetic formulation. The collaboration aims to integrate sustainability into every product line by leveraging IBM’s generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) expertise to analyze and optimize cosmetic formulation data.
The initiative is a critical step in L’Oréal’s L’Oréal for the Future sustainability commitment, targeting a shift to bio-sourced and circular-economy-based formulas by 2030. “As part of our Digital Transformation Program, this partnership will extend the speed and scale of our innovation and reformulation pipeline, with products always reaching higher standards of inclusivity, sustainability, and personalization,” stated Stéphane Ortiz, Head of Innovation Métiers & Product Development at L’Oréal Research & Innovation.

IBM’s advanced AI technology will analyze large-scale formulation and ingredient data to uncover insights, enabling:
