The SEC, in collaboration with CFA Institute and CFA Society Thailand, hosted a training seminar to advance the integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors into securities analysis and valuation. This initiative aims to enhance the expertise of securities analysts in incorporating ESG risks and opportunities, particularly climate-related risks, into their evaluations.

Event Details: The seminar, titled “Understanding the Impact of Sustainability on the Value and Performance of Companies; Integrating Climate-Related Risks and Opportunities into Equity Analysis and Valuation,” took place on June 28, 2024, at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok. The event targeted capital market professionals, especially securities analysts, providing them with practical skills and knowledge to analyze ESG data and integrate it into equity analysis.

Mrs. Pornanong Budsaratragoon, SEC Secretary-General, highlighted, “Driving sustainable growth in the Thai capital market is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This event supports our capital market professionals in gaining deeper ESG knowledge and integrating it into their research. Emphasizing ESG in securities analysis motivates listed companies to prioritize ESG matters, benefiting investors and the capital market.”

Mr. Richard McGillivray, Senior Director at CFA Institute, stated, “The integration of ESG factors into investment analysis has gained global momentum. CFA Institute is dedicated to raising ethical and professional standards, empowering professionals to effectively incorporate ESG into their decisions. This forum with the SEC of Thailand is a valuable opportunity to share insights and address challenges in using ESG data to understand long-term asset value and performance.

Ms. Kingpai Koosakulnirund, Vice President of CFA Society Thailand, remarked, “Thailand’s capital market is advancing in ESG disclosure and reporting. Practical workshops are crucial for analysts to start effectively incorporating ESG factors into their work.”

The seminar featured mini case studies and interactive sessions led by Mr. McGillivray, engaging over 100 Thai professionals from the securities industry. This initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable growth in Thailand’s capital market by equipping analysts with essential ESG skills for informed investment decisions.
