- The agreement advances efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, with a 30% per passenger/km target by 2030.
- TotalEnergies ramps up SAF production, aiming for 210,000 tons annually by 2025 at its Grandpuits site.
Air France-KLM scales up sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) commitments with a new agreement from TotalEnergies to supply up to 1.5 million tons over a 10-year period, solidifying their leadership in decarbonizing air travel.
This long-term deal, one of Air France-KLM’s largest SAF contracts, builds on previous agreements, including a 2022 MoU. By securing significant volumes of SAF, Benjamin Smith, CEO of Air France-KLM, emphasized: “This agreement is a further step in decarbonizing our activity and supports a strong SAF sector for Europe’s energy independence.”
Air France-KLM, already the world’s top SAF user in 2022 and 2023, aims to reduce its CO2 emissions per passenger/km by 30% by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. The group plans to meet this target through fleet renewal, eco-piloting, and incorporating at least 10% SAF on all flights.

TotalEnergies is transforming several of its refineries in France and Europe to ramp up SAF production. The company’s Grandpuits platform will produce 210,000 tons of SAF annually by 2025, with further investments in their Normandy and La Mède sites. Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of TotalEnergies, highlighted the broader industrial implications of SAF: “SAF represents a real ‘win-win’ for the future of industry and aviation.”
This agreement not only boosts Air France-KLM’s sustainability goals but also strengthens European energy independence and TotalEnergies‘ role in the global SAF supply chain.
