Algebris Investments’ First Venture Capital Fund Secures $65.4M for Climate and Deep Tech

Algebris Investments has launched its first venture capital fund, Algebris Climatech, with an initial close of approximately €60 million. Institutional investors, including major Italian pension funds and CDP Venture Capital, have supported the fund through allocations from the EU’s NextGenerationEU program. This fund is part of Algebris’ green transition initiative, established in 2021 under the leadership of Valerio Camerano.

Investment Strategy:

The thematic approach of Algebris Climatech focuses on climate tech and deep tech within industries critical to the green transition, such as energy, materials, industrials, and food. The fund seeks to invest in innovative projects, often originating from university research, and guide these companies through market expansion.

We believe that Algebris Climatech is uniquely positioned to seize remarkable opportunities in Europe’s climate and deep tech sectors,” said Marco Turchini, Managing Partner at Algebris Climatech. “Our aim is to build an international venture capital platform that is founder-friendly and supports Italy’s small business growth.”

The fund plans to create a portfolio of 15-20 companies with high growth potential and ambitions to lead their categories. Investments will be made in collaboration with international co-investors, aiming to raise a total of €100 million.

Team Expertise:

The investment team includes Alessandro Santo, Stefano Ferrari, and Marco Turchini, who collectively bring over 40 years of experience as technology investors, founders, and managers. They have invested in more than 50 startups, leveraging their deep industry knowledge to identify promising opportunities.

Regulatory Classification:

Algebris Climatech is classified as an Article 9 fund under the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosures Regulation (SFDR), emphasizing its commitment to sustainability. Incorporated under Luxembourg law, the fund is restricted to professional investors.
