  • Amazon’s micromobility hubs: Transforming urban deliveries with electric cargo bikes and on-foot couriers in major UK cities.
  • Investment in sustainability: £300 million invested in UK initiatives, part of a €1 billion plan to decarbonize Amazon’s transportation network across Europe.
  • Renewable energy leadership: Amazon’s renewable energy projects in the UK are set to power over one million homes annually.

Amazon is revolutionizing urban deliveries in the UK with its innovative micromobility hubs. These hubs, now operational in major cities like London, Manchester, Glasgow, Belfast, and Norwich, enable deliveries via electric cargo bikes and on foot. By reducing reliance on traditional delivery vans, Amazon is actively improving air quality and alleviating congestion in city centers.

Our goal is to have 100,000 electric delivery vehicles in service worldwide by 2030, helping to save millions of metric tons of carbon every year, stated an Amazon spokesperson.

What Are Micromobility Hubs?

Micromobility hubs are urban centers where packages are sorted for their final leg of delivery. These hubs, integrated into Amazon’s last-mile delivery stations, support the use of electric cargo bikes and foot couriers, significantly reducing the environmental impact of deliveries.

The initiative is a part of Amazon’s broader commitment to sustainability, aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. With a £300 million investment in the UK, Amazon is leading the charge in electrifying and decarbonizing its transportation network. This investment is crucial not only for Amazon but for the entire logistics industry, promoting innovations that reduce carbon emissions and improve urban living conditions.

Amazon’s Renewable Energy Commitment

As the largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy globally, Amazon is also making significant strides in the UK. The company has 29 operational on-site solar projects and has enabled seven large-scale offsite renewable energy projects, generating enough energy to power over one million UK homes annually.

These projects include partnerships with wind farms across the UK, such as the Ballykeel Wind Farm in Northern Ireland and the Moray West Offshore Windfarm in Scotland.

Amazon’s continuous efforts in both sustainable delivery and renewable energy highlight its commitment to leading the way in corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship.
