The breakthrough:

NeoCarbon, a startup specializing in DAC solutions, has successfully integrated captured CO2 into concrete production. The company partnered with Carbonaide, which mineralizes CO2 into concrete, to achieve this milestone.

How it works:

  • NeoCarbon captures CO2 from waste heat of cooling towers.
  • The CO2 is then introduced into a curing chamber, bonding with concrete via a process known as carbon curing.
  • Each cubic meter of concrete requires approximately 140 kg (308 lbs) of CO2.
  • The first batch was produced using biogenic waste and 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of captured carbon, leveraging the company’s DAC pilot program, NeoDuo.

Scaling up:

NeoCarbon currently operates two autonomous DAC modules, with the latest capable of capturing 5 tons per year. The company aims to scale to 62.5 tons per year, increasing its impact on reducing industrial CO2 emissions.
