Driving the Shift to Zero-Emission Mobility
The EU is investing nearly €422 million in 39 projects to expand alternative fuel supply infrastructure along the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). The funding comes from the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), a program dedicated to improving European transport infrastructure.
What’s Coming:
- Electric Charging: Around 2,500 recharging points for light-duty vehicles and 2,400 for heavy-duty vehicles along TEN-T roads.
- Hydrogen Refueling: 35 new stations to support cars, trucks, and buses.
- Airport Electrification: Ground handling services in 8 airports will transition to electric power.
- Greener Ports: 9 ports will receive sustainability upgrades.
- Bunkering Facilities: 2 sites will support ammonia and methanol refueling.
What’s Next?
EU Member States approved the projects on February 4, 2025. The European Commission will officially adopt the award decision in the coming months. Meanwhile, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) is preparing grant agreements with selected beneficiaries.
