Masdar’s Emerge and Misk City Sign 20-Year Solar Deal in Landmark Clean Energy Partnership

Masdar’s Emerge and Misk City Sign 20-Year Solar Deal in Landmark Clean Energy Partnership

Emerge and Misk City Sign 20-Year Clean Energy Partnership for Solar Power Deployment
  • Emerge will deliver a 621 kWp rooftop solar PV system to power Misk City, avoiding over 600 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
  • The project supports Misk City’s LEED and ParkSmart certifications, aligning with Vision 2030 sustainability goals.
  • Emerge provides full turnkey delivery—financing, design, construction, and long-term O&M—for seamless project execution.

Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF power solutions, has signed a 20-year solar energy agreement with Misk City to deliver clean electricity through a 621-kilowatt peak rooftop photovoltaic installation. The system, to be installed on a carport and other facilities within Misk City, will avoid more than 600 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

The solar installation is a key component in Misk City’s strategy to achieve LEED green city and ParkSmart sustainability certifications—furthering its commitment to becoming one of the region’s most advanced green urban developments.

This project marks a meaningful step in advancing our sustainability goals, reinforcing our commitment to building a city that thrives in harmony with its environment,” said David Henry, CEO of Misk City. “Integrating clean energy into our infrastructure is a natural extension of that vision.”

Located in northwest Riyadh, Misk City is the world’s first nonprofit city of its kind. It aims to serve as a regional hub for education, digital media, and culture while promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. The city embodies Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals by embedding walkability, smart mobility, renewable energy, and human-centric design throughout its master plan.

The agreement follows a broader framework signed earlier this year between Emerge and Misk City. Emerge will deliver a full turnkey solution—handling engineering, financing, procurement, construction, and operations and maintenance.

This partnership is a testament to the growing momentum for clean energy adoption in the Kingdom,” said Omar AlDaweesh, Emerge board member and CEO for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, EDF Group and EDF power solutions. “Emerge is proud to contribute to a new urban narrative, one where innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.”

The project further positions Misk City as a flagship model for sustainable urbanism in the Middle East.
