Google Secures 12-Year Renewable Energy Deal with energyRe for 435 MW Solar Project

Google Secures 12-Year Renewable Energy Deal with energyRe for 435 MW Solar Project

Key Impact Points:

  • Google signs a 12-year agreement for a 435 MW solar project to support its 2030 carbon-free energy goal.
  • The project will provide renewable energy for the equivalent of powering 56,000 homes, facilitated through Google’s LEAP™ process.
  • energyRe strengthens its portfolio with Google’s partnership, contributing to the tech giant’s 24/7 clean energy mission.

Google advances 24/7 clean energy goal

energyRe announced that Google has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable energy from a 435-megawatt (MWdc) solar project. This project will be owned, operated, and developed by energyRe, supplying electricity and Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to Google—enough to power more than 56,000 homes.

Driving toward carbon-free operations

The deal directly supports Google’s 2030 ambition to run entirely on 24/7 carbon-free energy across all grids where it operates. This agreement, facilitated by LEAP™ (LevelTen Energy’s Accelerated Process), co-developed by Google and LevelTen Energy, is aimed at streamlining clean energy transactions.

“As we continue to progress towards our goal to operate every Google campus on clean electricity every hour of every day by 2030, we are always looking for opportunities to accelerate the delivery of new clean power to the grid,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, Google Global Head of Data Center Energy. “Using our scalable procurement approach, we’ve been able to collaborate quickly with energyRe to deliver new clean energy to the SPP grid system and support our 24/7 progress in the region.”

Strengthening renewable energy leadership

energyRe’s CEO Miguel Prado emphasized the significance of the deal: “Google is a global leader in renewable energy and continues to set a high bar across the technology industry. energyRe’s track record of delivering clean energy solutions for our customers makes us a trusted partner for companies working to reduce their carbon footprints.”

Nationally, energyRe’s portfolio includes 1,520 MWdc of contracted solar assets and 398 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage assets, further reinforcing their position as a major clean energy provider.

This strategic collaboration marks another milestone in the push for decarbonization and emphasizes Google’s commitment to pioneering innovative solutions in the renewable energy space.
