Octopus Energy Launches £165 Million Clean Energy Fund with SDR 'Sustainable Focus' Label

  • £165M fund opens monthly access to over 50 renewable projects across 15 countries
  • First wave of SDR-labeled private market funds meeting top green investing standards
  • Targets £20B in clean energy deployment by 2030, powering 2.4M+ homes annually

Octopus Energy Generation, the fund management arm of Octopus Energy Group, has launched a flagship fund designed to make clean energy infrastructure accessible to private wealth and pension investors—without compromising on financial returns.

The CG Octopus Energy Sustainable Growth Fund I (‘Astris’) opens doors to a diversified portfolio of over 50 renewable energy projects spanning 15 countries. Assets include wind, solar, and large-scale battery developments, and are now available via major investment platforms.

“For too long, pension schemes and private wealth have had limited investment opportunities in private markets due to a lack of innovative solutions,” said Matt Setchell, Co-Head of Octopus Energy Generation. The launch of this fund changes that.”

Astris debuted with a £165 million (€194 million) cornerstone investment and is among the first private market funds awarded the UK FCA’s ‘Sustainable Focus’ label under new Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR)—a badge that signifies top-tier standards in ESG integrity.

Unlike most private market vehicles, Astris offers monthly liquidity, allowing investors to co-invest alongside some of the world’s largest institutional funds. This structural flexibility makes it a standout for asset managers and allocators seeking scalable green exposure.

Day one investors will own a globally diverse portfolio of renewable projects and companies—delivering genuine impact with no compromise on financial returns,Setchell added.

Octopus Energy already manages £7 billion in green energy assets and powers over 2.4 million homes annually. The company has set its sights on deploying £20 billion (€23 billion) in clean energy by 2030.

Governance of the fund is led by Carne Group, a leading provider of fund oversight and compliance.

The fund is an important enabler of private wealth and pension fund exposure both to private infrastructure as an asset class and to the energy transition as an investment opportunity,” said Jeremy Soutter, Managing Director at Carne Group.
We believe our partnership with Octopus exemplifies the benefits of collaboration in facilitating innovation and delivering best-in-class fund management processes for end investors.
