Optera Upgrades Supply Chain Tool for Enhanced Scope 3 Emissions Reporting
  • Optera’s upgraded Supply Chain Manager now includes more granular supplier data and transparent calculations, aiding companies in meeting regulatory requirements like the EU’s CSRD.
  • Enhanced features support faster onboarding, facilitating emissions data access in weeks and streamlined reporting for key frameworks.
  • The latest updates emphasize supplier engagement, a necessity as 70% of sustainability professionals focus on decarbonizing their value chains.

Optera, an ESG and carbon management software leader, has released the next generation of its Supply Chain Manager, advancing Scope 3, category 1 emissions management. This update comes as companies face new regulatory pressures, such as the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and California’s Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act. The enhanced platform offers detailed supply chain emissions data management, empowering organizations to accelerate decarbonization across their value chains.

“We’re not just providing a tool; we’re enabling a transformative approach to sustainability,” said Tim Weiss, CEO and co-founder of Optera. “With enhanced supplier data granularity, transparent calculations, and accelerated time to insight, Optera is making it easier than ever for companies to drive climate action throughout their value chains.”

The updated platform builds on Optera’s extensive database of emissions data from over 10,000 companies and introduces new features:

  • Detailed supplier data: Incorporates facility-level and business unit emissions, with plans to add product-level insights soon.
  • Calculation transparency: Clear display of emissions sources, calculations, and factor mapping ensures data traceability.
  • Faster reporting: Companies can now begin emissions reporting in weeks, thanks to accelerated onboarding and automated submission capabilities.
  • Enhanced UI: A streamlined design facilitates collaboration across sustainability teams, company leadership, and external stakeholders.

These enhancements follow Optera’s introduction of its Outreach module, allowing businesses to gather emissions data from suppliers at varying readiness levels.

Recent research by Optera highlights the growing importance of supplier engagement as part of emissions reporting. Findings show:

  • 70% of surveyed professionals work with their value chain to aid supplier decarbonization.
  • 73% have committed to science-based targets (SBTs).
  • Over 90% report emissions to the public, regulators, or customers.

“These metrics underscore the critical role our Supply Chain Manager plays in today’s sustainability landscape, giving companies the data and collaborative capabilities necessary to make substantial value chain emissions reductions,” added Weiss.

Optera’s upgraded platform positions businesses to better navigate the complex sustainability landscape, ensuring transparent, efficient, and impactful climate action.
