Medert, a 26-year SAP veteran, steps into the position from his previous role as SVP Global Adoption Insights & License Compliance, bringing extensive experience in aligning customer needs with compliance across regions.
Strategic Priorities
Medert will spearhead SAP’s sustainability strategy globally, focusing on:
- Achieving net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2030.

- Developing AI ethics and overseeing responsible AI solutions.

Building on a Strong Foundation
Medert succeeds Daniel Schmid, who is retiring after three decades at SAP, including 10 years as Chief Sustainability Officer. Schmid’s leadership laid the groundwork for SAP’s dual role as an Exemplar—setting the standard for sustainable practices—and an Enabler, empowering customers with innovative sustainability management tools.
Schmid reflected on his tenure:
“From my first day, it has been a privilege to shape our company’s sustainability journey – I’m proud to always highlight SAP’s role as both an Exemplar and Enabler and why it’s not enough to have a sustainability strategy but a sustainable business strategy.”
Driving the Future
Under Medert’s leadership, SAP will continue its focus on sustainability as a core business strategy, combining cutting-edge technology with a steadfast commitment to global environmental and social goals.
