SBTi Launches New Website to Streamline Science-Based Target Validation for Businesses

Key Impact Points:

  • The SBTi has seen a nearly 60% increase in businesses setting and validating science-based targets in the last nine months.
  • SBTi launches sbtiservices.com to streamline target validation for businesses and financial institutions.
  • New Validation Portal simplifies the process with mandatory registration, improving accessibility for organizations on their decarbonization journey.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has launched a new website, www.sbtiservices.com, aimed at providing businesses and financial institutions with the resources and tools they need to set and validate their science-based targets. This move comes in response to a surge in demand for the SBTi’s services, with a nearly 60% increase in validated science-based targets in just the past nine months.

To keep pace with this growing demand, SBTi has established SBTi Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary that focuses on target validation services. This structural shift allows the organization to scale more efficiently, ensuring that companies around the world can continue to play a leading role in climate action through their decarbonization strategies.

Next week, the website will introduce a new Validation Portal, designed to streamline the validation process and make it more user-friendly. The portal will include a mandatory registration step to confirm the organization’s type, eligibility, and pricing tier before setting or submitting targets for validation.

Sue Jenny Ehr, Interim CEO of SBTi, emphasized the importance of this new platform in accelerating corporate climate action:
“Setting targets is the crucial first step businesses take in their decarbonization journey. Over the last decade, the SBTi has validated the targets of over 6,000 businesses with another 3,000 committed to submit targets. If we are to collectively meet climate goals, we need to move further and faster.”

Sue Jenny Ehr, Interim CEO of SBTi

This launch marks a significant step in SBTi’s ongoing efforts to support companies in setting science-based targets and driving global decarbonization.
