The Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) is establishing a government chief sustainability officer position with effect from Jan 1, 2023, to drive the Republic’s sustainability efforts under the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

Current chief science and technology officer Lim Tuang Liang will be the first GCSO to drive the Green Plan in realising a sustainable, resource-efficient and climate-resilient Singapore, announced the ministry on Friday (Dec 30).

At the same time, he will be appointed as Deputy Secretary (Special Duties) at MSE, and will relinquish his role as CSTO upon the appointment of his replacement.

In his new role as GCSO, Lim will oversee MSE’s Public Sector Sustainability Office and Sustainability Partnerships Office, working with public sector agencies to develop and coordinate strategies for GreenGov.SG.

Additionally, he will spearhead the government’s partnership stakeholders, including businesses and civil society partners, to advance the national sustainability agenda.

The Green Plan is a whole-of-nation movement to advance Singapore’s national agenda on sustainable development. Under the plan – which is being driven under the GreenGov.SG initiative – the public sector will strive to attain ambitious sustainability targets in carbon abatement and resource efficiency.
