The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Ras Al Khaimah Petroleum Authority (RAKPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration on sustainable energy initiatives in the UAE. The agreement, signed by His Excellency Eng Sharif Al Olama and His Excellency Christopher Wood, focuses on advancing clean energy technologies and supporting the nation’s shift towards a low-carbon future.
This MoU aims to foster cooperation in key areas, including geological and geophysical surveys, research on natural hydrogen, carbon capture through mineralization, and geothermal energy exploration. These efforts are designed to help the UAE meet its energy demands sustainably and drive progress toward its net zero by 2050 target.
“Our commitment to enhancing synergy among government entities to achieve national energy targets and drive a shift to sustainable energy is unwavering,” said His Excellency Eng Sharif Al Olama. “Our partnership with RAKPA is in line with this commitment and a major step in realizing the UAE’s net zero by 2050 objective.”
The collaboration will focus on integrating innovative technologies into the energy sector. Natural hydrogen and carbon sequestration are at the forefront of these efforts, aiming to make the UAE a leader in clean energy and environmental sustainability.
His Excellency Christopher Wood, Chief Executive of RAKPA, emphasized, “Teaming up with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure enables us to combine our expertise to explore cutting-edge technologies in natural hydrogen production and carbon capture and storage.”
