Air France-KLM Partners with EASA to Drive EU Flight Emissions Label
  • Air France-KLM becomes the first airline group to collaborate with EASA on the EU Flight Emissions Label, advancing transparency in flight emissions.
  • The partnership supports EU efforts to standardize CO₂ and energy efficiency data for informed passenger decision-making.
  • This aligns with Air France-KLM’s broader decarbonization strategy, including fleet renewal, sustainable aviation fuel use, and intermodal transport.

Air France-KLM has become the first airline group to partner with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to support the creation of the EU Flight Emissions Label (FEL), a major step toward greater transparency in the environmental impact of air travel.

Endorsed by the European Commission, the FEL aims to provide consumers with standardized, verifiable data on CO₂ emissions and energy efficiency for flights across Europe. The label is designed to empower passengers with the information needed to make more sustainable travel decisions.

As part of the collaboration, Air France-KLM will provide feedback on both the EASA’s FEL portal and the technical methodology behind the label. By drawing on its operational expertise, the Group will help shape the design and functionality of the emissions label.

Air France-KLM is committed to ensuring a true global level playing field. Our early and active participation in this initiative is designed to help shape a fair, transparent, and effective framework for all airlines,” said Benjamin Smith, CEO of Air France-KLM.

This initiative complements Air France-KLM’s broader sustainability goals. The Group is accelerating fleet renewal with new-generation aircraft that cut fuel consumption by up to 25%, integrating sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and employing eco-piloting strategies to boost fuel efficiency. It is also investing in intermodal solutions, combining air travel with lower-carbon alternatives such as rail.

Supporting the FEL marks another milestone in Air France-KLM’s drive to decarbonize aviation. The airline group continues to work closely with French, Dutch, and EU authorities to co-develop an effective, region-wide decarbonization roadmap for the sector.
