- Apple has cut global greenhouse gas emissions by over 60% since 2015 and is on track for carbon neutrality by 2030.
- Suppliers delivered 17.8 GW of renewable electricity in 2024, avoiding 21.8 million tonnes of emissions.
- Apple now uses 99% recycled rare earth elements in magnets and 99% recycled cobalt in Apple-designed batteries.
Apple has achieved a 60% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions compared to its 2015 baseline, the company revealed in its 2024 Environmental Progress Report. This progress marks a major step toward its Apple 2030 goal to become carbon neutral across its entire footprint within the next five years.
“We’re incredibly proud of the progress we’re making toward Apple 2030, which touches every part of our business,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives. “As we get closer to 2030, the work gets even harder — and we’re meeting the challenge with innovation, collaboration and urgency.”

Supply Chain: Renewable Energy Scaling Up
Apple’s suppliers now generate 17.8 gigawatts of renewable electricity, up over 17% from 2023. These clean energy efforts avoided 21.8 million tonnes of emissions last year, as Apple pushes its suppliers to run on 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
Additionally, Apple-supported energy efficiency initiatives helped avoid another 2 million tonnes of emissions in 2024.
Semiconductor & Display: Cutting F-GHGs
The company is also targeting emissions from semiconductor and flat-panel display manufacturing, major sources of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-GHGs).
- 26 semiconductor suppliers have committed to abate 90% of F-GHG emissions by 2030.
- 100% of direct display suppliers have made the same pledge.
- These actions already abated 8.4 million tonnes of emissions in 2024.
Materials & Circular Economy: Record Use of Recycled Components
Apple surpassed 99% recycled content use in two critical components:
- Rare earth elements in all magnets
- Cobalt in all Apple-designed batteries (representing over 97% of Apple’s cobalt usage)

Zero Waste & Water Conservation
Through its Zero Waste Program, Apple and its suppliers diverted 600,000 tonnes of waste from landfills in 2024 — totaling 3.6 million tonnes since 2015.
Water conservation also saw meaningful gains:
- 53 trillion litres of water saved in 2024
- Over 340 trillion litres conserved since 2013 through Apple’s Supplier Clean Water Program
- Apple has secured over 40% of its water replenishment target for high-stress areas by 2030
Carbon-Neutral Products
Apple’s sustainability efforts are integrated into its products:
- The latest MacBook Air uses over 55% recycled content — a record for any Apple device
- Customers can opt for carbon-neutral Apple Watches in any material
- The Mac mini became Apple’s first carbon-neutral Mac
These product milestones reflect a focus on reducing emissions across materials, energy, and transport, with carbon offsets used only for the residual impact.
Earth Day Activation & Consumer Engagement
Apple is engaging consumers in sustainability efforts:
- Trade-in and recycling programs offer 10% off accessories until May 16 for in-store recycling
- Earth Day-themed Apple Watch challenges, Time to Walk episodes, and Apple TV+ content highlight environmental themes
