BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) has launched its first infrastructure private equity fund, the BNP Paribas Low Carbon Transition Infra Equity Fund I, targeting €750M to advance Europe’s energy transition. Backed by a €400M anchor commitment from the BNP Paribas Group, the fund aims to build a diversified portfolio of 8-12 equity investments in mid-market capital-intensive infrastructure projects.

Strategic Focus:

The fund invests in clean energy, sustainable mobility, and circular economy projects, with a focus on emerging sectors like batteries, hydrogen, and carbon capture. It leverages BNP Paribas’ network and expertise, particularly its Low Carbon Transition Group.

Early Investments:

  • Absolute Energy (Italy): Acquired a minority stake in July 2024, supporting a 3.0 GW pipeline of solar, wind, and storage projects.
  • Arkolia (France): Took a co-controlling stake in November 2024 alongside Mirova, advancing rooftop photovoltaic solutions as France’s #2 Independent Power Producer (IPP).

ESG-Driven Investments:

Classified as Article 8 under the SFDR, the fund integrates rigorous ESG criteria developed with BNPP AM’s Sustainability Centre. This ensures capital is efficiently directed to projects critical for achieving low-carbon goals.

David Bouchoucha, head of BNPP AM’s Private Assets unit, manages the fund, backed by a team overseeing more than €40B in assets. BNP Paribas’ strong foundation in infrastructure financing underscores its commitment to Europe’s sustainable energy transformation.
