European Solar PV Industry Alliance Secures Over 110 Members to Launch Industrial Action Plan to Reshape Industry

European Solar PV Industry Alliance Secures Over 110 Members to Launch Industrial Action Plan to Reshape Industry

Co-led under EIT InnoEnergy, the European Solar PV Industry Alliance has attracted over 110 new members across 17 countries to launch an industrial action plan.

EIT InnoEnergy, the innovation engine for sustainable energy supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an institution of the European Union, has co- led the European Solar PV Industry Alliance (ESIA) to already secure over 110 new members across 17 countries since its December 2022 launch. The members will devise an industrial plan to re-develop, de-risk and accelerate the PV industry in Europe across all segments of the value chain, from silicon to modules.

The Alliance has now created four project working groups: Non Pricing conditions, Supply Chain, Financing and Skills led by key industry players such as Carbon, Enel Greenpower, Engie, IBC, Meyer Burger Technology AG and Wacker Chemie AG , to reach a series of concrete actions which will form a consolidated plan to re-industrialise the European solar PV industry. These actions will support the EU Green Deal Industrial ambitions to develop an industry to supply an annual capacity of 30 GW by 2025, adding 60 billion Euros of new GDP every year in Europe and creating more than 400,000 new jobs (direct and indirect).

Javier Sanz, EIT InnoEnergy’s Thematic Leader Renewable Energies and ESIA lead, commented:

“We are delighted to see the incredibly rapid progress of the EU Solar PV Industry Alliance, with over 110 members joining from right across the solar value chain, from over 17 countries. It’s vital we continue leveraging a robust solar PV industrial value chain, and we’re excited to see the outcomes of our four project working groups to be unveiled later this year.”

Created by the European Commission and led by EIT InnoEnergy, the European Solar PV Industry Alliance facilitates an innovation-led expansion of a resilient industrial solar value chain in the EU, particularly in the PV manufacturing sector. The Steering Committee is made up of the European Commission itself, EIT InnoEnergy, Solar Power Europe and the European Solar Manufacturing Council.

The Alliance supports the growth of a European industry that is developing and commercialising breakthrough technologies along the whole value chain, leading to more innovative, efficient, circular and sustainable products, and making the EU’s climate and energy objectives more attainable.

The working groups’ action plan will be announced at Intersolar Europe in Munich, June 14-16th.
