Flow State: Sustainable Self – Tip of the Day, Tracey Gazel

What is Flow State?
Flow state, a concept from Positive Psychology, describes a mental state of deep immersion, intense focus, and intrinsic motivation. Often called being “in the zone,” it’s the experience of becoming so absorbed in a task that time fades and worries dissolve. The activity offers just the right level of challenge to keep you engaged, inspired, and fully present.
In education, flow is linked to higher student engagement—a core ingredient of effective learning. In leadership, it’s a pathway to clarity and peak performance.
If you’ve ever accessed flow, you’ve likely wondered how to return to it. Ironically, the effort to force your way back often blocks the state entirely.
Flow isn’t something to chase. It arises when the mind is focused and present. To experience flow more often, practice quieting your mind—not forcing focus. From that quieter place, flow becomes your natural state of being.
