Google Signs 10-Year Agreement with Exus Renewables to Power Spanish Operations with Wind Energy

Google Signs 10-Year Agreement with Exus Renewables to Power Spanish Operations with Wind Energy

  • Exus will supply 35MW of renewable electricity to Google’s Spanish operations from the Cascante wind farm.
  • Agreement significantly advances Google’s goal of operating on 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030.
  • Project supports Spain’s commitment to achieve 81% renewable energy by 2030.

Exus Renewables, a global independent power producer (IPP), announced a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Google for the Cascante wind farm in Navarra, Spain.

The partnership is pivotal in supporting Google’s ambitious sustainability objectives and marks a critical advancement in Exus’ position as a leading provider of clean energy to data centers across Europe.

Under this deal, Exus Renewables will deliver 35MW from the 51MW Cascante wind facility, directly bolstering Google’s clean energy initiatives.

Laurent Jouvin, Director of Operations and Energy Management at Exus Renewables, stated:

“Exus Renewables and Google are deeply committed to decarbonising Europe’s economy. Through this partnership, we will be able to fast-track Spain’s renewable energy transition and enable Google to power its operations with clean, sustainable energy while mitigating energy price volatility.”

Google aims to achieve net-zero emissions across its global operations and value chain, and this PPA is crucial in its strategy to reach 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) by 2030.

Will Conkling, Director Energy Commercial Structuring at Google, added:

As we advance our goal to operate on clean energy every hour of every day by 2030, we are always looking for opportunities to accelerate the delivery of new affordable, reliable, clean power to the grid. Using our scalable procurement approach, we’ve been able to collaborate efficiently with Exus Renewables and support our 24/7 carbon-free energy progress in Spain.”

This agreement was facilitated through LevelTen Energy’s LEAP™ program, designed to streamline the procurement and execution of renewable energy agreements.

The Cascante wind project is expected to produce over 136GWh of renewable electricity annually, sufficient to power approximately 41,000 households, and will prevent around 17,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, significantly contributing to Spain’s National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) targets.
