Norsk e-Fuel, Prime Capital and RES Partner to Launch 80,000-Ton SAF Plant in Sweden
  • 80,000 tons of e-Fuel annually: Project Alby will boost sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in Sweden, reducing aviation emissions.
  • Strategic collaboration: Norsk e-Fuel, Prime Capital, and RES combine expertise to accelerate the green transition.
  • European regulation-aligned: The project supports the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation policy for SAF adoption.

Norsk e-Fuel, Prime Capital, and RES are partnering to launch Project Alby, a large-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant in Ånge, Sweden. The facility will produce at least 80,000 tons of e-Fuel annually, positioning Sweden as a leader in green aviation solutions.

A Milestone in Sustainable Aviation

This project is a milestone for Norsk e-Fuel as we expand into Sweden and continue to lead the charge in providing fossil-free fuels for the aviation industry,” said Karl Hauptmeier, CEO of Norsk e-Fuel. “Working with experienced partners like Prime Capital and RES strengthens our mission.”

The plant will use Power-to-Liquid technology, converting water into hydrogen and combining it with captured CO₂ to create e-Kerosene, a fossil-free alternative to conventional aviation fuels. The 14-hectare site in Ånge benefits from low electricity costs due to abundant renewable energy and will be a key part of one of Europe’s leading green hydrogen-driven industrial clusters.

Industry-Leading Collaboration

This collaboration brings together Norsk e-Fuel’s cutting-edge SAF development, RES’ renewable energy expertise, and Prime Capital’s extensive investment experience,” said Jens Walzner, Managing Director of Prime Capital. “This partnership is a key step in reducing aviation emissions and accelerating Sweden’s transition to a more sustainable future.”

RES, which pre-developed the Ånge site, will continue supporting the project with its 40+ years of renewable energy experience. “The Alby project’s potential to deliver 80,000 tons of SAF annually is a major milestone for both the green energy market and Ånge municipality,” said Matilda Afzelius, CEO of RES in the Nordics.

Backed by European Support

Project Alby aligns with the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation policy, which mandates increased SAF usage in aviation. Prime Capital’s investment benefits from EU funding under the InvestEU Fund, further solidifying financial support for the initiative.

With this expansion, Norsk e-Fuel continues to scale industrial e-Fuel production, strengthening its commitment to providing sustainable solutions for the aviation industry.
