Puro.earth Integrates CCS+ Methodologies to Streamline Carbon Removal Certification

• Integration with CCS+ Initiative creates unified certification for BECCS and DACCS carbon removal projects
• Simplifies participation for suppliers and buyers across voluntary and compliance markets
• Strengthens alignment with EU CRCF and Paris Agreement Article 6 frameworks

Building a Unified Certification Pathway

Helsinki-based carbon removal platform Puro.earth has integrated the CCS+ Initiative’s carbon dioxide removal (CDR) methodology framework—including bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) and direct air capture with carbon capture and storage (DACCS)—into its certification and issuance system.

The move enables suppliers to issue Puro CO₂ Removal Certificates (CORCs) based on the CCS+ Initiative’s methodologies through the Puro Registry, creating a single governed, transparent market infrastructure for buyers and suppliers. The integration aims to expand access to credible carbon removal credits and accelerate financing for large-scale infrastructure projects.

Simplifying Access for Suppliers and Buyers

Suppliers can now prepare and manage projects using either the Puro Standard methodology or the CCS+ Initiative’s BECCS and DACCS frameworks via the newly upgraded MyPuro 2.0 platform. The system eliminates duplication, reduces administrative friction, and ensures compatibility with both voluntary and compliance markets—an increasingly critical requirement as large developers seek flexibility across different regulatory regimes.

For buyers, having both methodologies available within one trusted certification registry simplifies procurement. The integration also supports alignment with emerging compliance frameworks such as the EU’s Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF) and the international mechanisms being developed under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

Strengthening Market Integrity and Scale

Puro.earth’s integration with the CCS+ Initiative underscores the growing cooperation among leading carbon removal standards to reduce market fragmentation and raise verification standards. All methodologies under the Puro framework are independently validated and verified, ensuring a consistent level of rigor.

With this integration, suppliers can use a single platform that supports certification under both Puro Standard CORCs or the CCS+ Initiative methodology framework, while buyers gain simplicity and confidence at the point of purchase,” said Jan-Willem Bode, President of Puro.earth. “To scale, the carbon removal market needs trusted infrastructure that offers flexibility without compromising on quality.”

Pascal Siegwart, Co-founder and Chairman of the CCS+ Initiative, added that the collaboration will help reduce fragmentation by promoting interoperable monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) protocols. “Our framework, developed through the work of nearly 50 members under Verra VCS, raises the bar on integrity so market participants can trust what a tonne removed really means,” he said.

Future-Proofing for Compliance and Investment Confidence

As the carbon removal market matures, demand for scalable, verifiable, and interoperable systems is growing. Integrating the CCS+ framework into Puro.earth’s infrastructure provides the flexibility required to meet future regulatory demands and investor expectations.

The partnership also enhances the efficiency of Puro.earth’s certification processes. The MyPuro 2.0 platform accelerates credit issuance and shortens time to revenue for suppliers, while maintaining robust validation standards. This, in turn, offers buyers a higher degree of confidence in the permanence and traceability of credits purchased.

Global Implications for Carbon Markets

The alignment between Puro.earth and the CCS+ Initiative reflects a broader trend toward harmonized governance across carbon removal standards. With global regulators advancing frameworks for credible removals, such collaborations are helping define the architecture of future compliance markets.

By combining digital infrastructure with high-integrity methodologies, Puro.earth is positioning itself as the backbone of the emerging carbon removal economy—linking technology developers, investors, and policymakers through a transparent certification ecosystem that meets the needs of both voluntary and regulated markets.

The integration strengthens the foundation for a scalable, investment-grade carbon removal market—one where trust, interoperability, and measurable impact define value across borders.
