Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, announced the Kingdom’s significant investments exceeding $500 billion in creating sustainable tourism destinations. Speaking at the Saudi House pavilion in Davos, he emphasized the sector’s crucial role in driving economic growth and fostering global cultural exchange.

Sustainability is integrated at every stage, from design to implementation, in projects like AlUla and The Red Sea,” stated Al-Khateeb. He further highlighted the Saudi Green Initiative and Green Riyadh, launched by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, which aims to plant millions of trees by 2030.

The Kingdom is pursuing ambitious yet environmentally conscious investments, embedding sustainability into all aspects of its tourism development,” noted Al-Khateeb. He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, emphasizing the need for a global collective effort to address environmental challenges.

During a session on the role of tourism in building trust, Al-Khateeb emphasized the sector’s vital role in fostering cultural exchange and global connectivity. “Interaction between peoples, visiting diverse countries, and understanding different cultures are central to the essence of tourism,” he stated.
