Schneider Electric has been named the official sustainability partner of the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), which organizes the Boston Marathon and other iconic races. The six-year partnership will focus on making these events benchmarks for sustainability in the running industry.

  • Calculate its carbon footprint.
  • Set ambitious climate goals.
  • Publish detailed sustainability reports annually.

The first report is slated for release in 2025, outlining the progress and innovations driving sustainable practices across B.A.A. events.

Local Impact with a Global Vision

Schneider Electric’s contributions will include operational best practices, such as:

  • Achieving waste diversion rates like the 58% milestone reached in 2024.
  • Promoting green initiatives, such as recycling, composting, and donation programs.
  • Utilizing local suppliers—75% of vendors are located within 100 miles of the Boston Marathon.

In 2024 alone, 18.38 tons of clothing and materials were donated, including race-day apparel and shoes through Sneakers 4 Good.

Schneider Electric, headquartered in Boston for over 130 years, is deeply embedded in the community. The company partners with local organizations, including Boston University and Habitat for Humanity, and employs over 2,200 people in the New England region.

Through this partnership, Schneider Electric aims to transform the Boston Marathon into one of the world’s most sustainable marathons while inspiring millions to adopt eco-conscious practices. From “cheer zones” to green volunteer initiatives, this effort underscores the shared vision of a greener future.
