The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) have formalized a strategic partnership to scale up investment in sustainable infrastructure and green development.
Signed by AIIB President Jin Liqun and NIB President and CEO André Küüsvek, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) strengthens institutional cooperation across operations, investment, and policy frameworks.
“Formalising this partnership with the Nordic Investment Bank marks an important step forward,” said Jin. “It underscores our shared vision of advancing sustainable development and tackling global challenges through collective action. Together, we aim to expand access to sustainable infrastructure financing, foster inclusive growth, and accelerate the shift to a low-carbon future.”

The MoU sets the groundwork for collaboration on a broad range of activities, from identifying joint investment opportunities to sharing best practices across governance, human resources, IT, and legal services. It also prioritizes joint research and knowledge exchange, especially in climate change mitigation and clean technology.

“This MoU reflects our intention to engage in long-term institutional cooperation,” said Küüsvek. “While NIB’s primary mandate is to finance projects that enhance productivity and benefit the environment within our region, we have a history of working beyond these boundaries. This collaboration with AIIB reinforces our commitment to global engagement in infrastructure financing and sustainable economic growth.”

This alliance combines AIIB’s multilateral reach with NIB’s regional expertise to advance sustainable and inclusive economic development.
