Conscious Fashion Campaign: NYFW is Seeking Women Entrepreneurs Advancing Fashion Industry Change to be Featured in a Collective Digital Billboard Campaign

In collaboration with the United Nations Office for Partnerships and PVBLIC Foundation, advisory committee Arizona Muse, Noëlla Coursaris Musunka, Julia Gall and others aim to increase media representation of women entrepreneurs

The Conscious Fashion Campaign, an initiative of the Fashion Impact Fund in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Partnerships and the PVBLIC Foundation, is accepting applications for ten women entrepreneurs advancing fashion industry change to be featured in a collective digital billboard campaign during New York Fashion Week September 2022.

With research suggesting that women receive only 25%[1] of news features globally, the campaign aims to amplify the visibility and increase media representation of women entrepreneurs leading the fashion sector towards a responsible future. In support of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Conscious Fashion Campaign aims to educate, inform, and inspire a diverse media landscape inclusive of women entrepreneurs shaping the fashion industry and society with innovative solutions. Through visibility in digital media advertisements at key locations in New York City including Times Square, Spring Studios and outside the United Nations Headquarters, the Conscious Fashion Campaign will provide exposure for the honorees to amplify their sustainable solutions from September 9 – 14, 2022.

The campaign is a key initiative of the Fashion Impact Fund which supports women entrepreneurs leading educational initiatives to accelerate the fashion industry’s transition to a sector that values people and planet. The charitable fund is committed to advancing women-led media, knowledge and skill-based programs that harness education as a transformative tool to evolve an equitable, inclusive, and regenerative fashion ecosystem.

Kerry Bannigan, Executive Director, Fashion Impact Fund, shares: “Media holds a critical role in the narrative of sustainability in society today. The Conscious Fashion Campaign aims to spotlight and introduce new role models; specifically those that are advocating for a fair and resilient world.”

The Conscious Fashion Campaign advisory committee of media representatives and impact advocates  will select the honorees based on factors including supporting the advancement of at least one Sustainable Development Goal, the innovations, solutions, or sustainable business practices they have implemented to support social, environmental and/or economic impact within the industry and their contribution as a driving force for sustainable development in the fashion ecosystem.

Sergio Fernández de Córdova, Executive Chairman, PVBLIC Foundation, comments: “We are proud to be part of this visionary and collaborative initiative. The SDGs provide a great framework for the fashion industry to transition to sustainability. We’re committed to doing all we can to accelerate this using the power of media, data and technology to shine a light on those that are leading the charge.”

The advisory committee members include; Paloma Costa, Member, United Nations Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change; Noëlla Coursaris Musunka, Founder and CEO, Malaika; Tara Donaldson, Executive Editor, WWD; Julia Gall, Freelance Fashion Stylist, Writer and Consultant; Mary Gehlhar, Fashion Educator and Author, The Fashion Designer Survival Guide; Arizona Muse, Model and Founder, DIRT— Foundation for the Regeneration of Earth; Femi Oke, Senior Host and Journalist, Al Jazeera; Fernanda Simon, Sustainability Editor, Vogue Brazil and Director, Fashion Revolution Brazil, Marina Spadafora, Fair Fashion Ambassador, and Ariana Stolarz, Managing Director, Global Sustainability Lead x Product Innovation, Accenture.

Being conscious while consuming means reforesting our lives and our planet. As a member of the Advisory Committee, I want to ensure that fashion is also adding the protection of our planet into the equation and understanding what it means for the collective right to a quality life.”
