ERM-Backed 100 MW Renewable Hydrogen Project Secures €62M EU Funding
Listen to this story:
  • €62M funding secured: The HYTLANTIC GreenH2Atlantic project received substantial EU Innovation Fund support for large-scale renewable hydrogen production.
  • 100 MW hydrogen capacity: The project will deploy a 100 MW electrolyser powered by renewable wind and solar energy.
  • Strategic decarbonization initiative: Hydrogen will supply the Sines refinery and integrate into the natural gas grid to drive regional and industrial decarbonization.

ERM, the world’s largest sustainability consultancy, supported HYTLANTIC’s GreenH2Atlantic project through its successful €62 million funding application to the EU Innovation Fund. This fund prioritizes projects that advance low-carbon technology and bolster Europe’s industrial competitiveness.

The project will deploy a 100 MW hydrogen electrolyser, utilizing renewable electricity from wind and solar to produce green hydrogen. This hydrogen will supply the Sines refinery in Portugal and contribute to blending in the natural gas grid.

Out of 70 hydrogen and electrification proposals submitted to the Innovation Fund, only eight advanced to the grant agreement phase. ERM’s strategic guidance played a crucial role in HYTLANTIC’s success, covering project reviews, proposal preparation, and ongoing support.

Michael Dolman, ERM’s project lead, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “It has been a privilege to support HYTLANTIC on its Innovation Fund and project development journey. GreenH2Atlantic is a high-impact decarbonization project that will provide valuable lessons for other project developers seeking to deliver large-scale green hydrogen facilities. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with HYTLANTIC to support the European energy transition.”
