Nordea Asset Management (NAM), a leading Nordic investment manager, has been awarded a $450 million global equity mandate by the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS). CalSTRS, one of the world’s largest public pension plans, selected NAM’s Global Stars Equity Strategy, which focuses on sustainability and integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into every investment decision.

We are honored to have been selected by CalSTRS to manage a portion of its Sustainability-Focused Equity portfolio through our Global Stars Equity Strategy,” said Nils Bolmstrand, CEO of Nordea Asset Management. “For over three decades, we’ve been successfully developing solutions designed to deliver attractive long-term returns while bringing about positive impact. Sustainable Investment is an essential part of our Nordic DNA.

The Global Stars Equity Strategy, managed by NAM’s Fundamental Equities Team, emphasizes full ESG integration. The strategy also aligns with net-zero objectives, helping investors decarbonize their portfolios. Currently, its carbon footprint is 61% lower than the MSCI ACWI benchmark, offering an immediate reduction in emissions for investors.

In addition to this mandate, NAM and CalSTRS are collaborating on an Engagement Initiative to reduce global methane emissions. This effort, focused on the Oil and Gas Methane 2.0 Partnership (OGMP), has already seen 14 companies adopt the OGMP 2.0 framework, committing to ambitious methane reduction targets.

We are excited to expand our relationship with the team at Nordea Asset Management. The sustainability-focused approach of the Global Stars Equity Strategy aligns closely with our mandate to achieve a net-zero portfolio by 2050 or sooner,” said Kirsty Jenkinson, Investment Director of CalSTRS.
