SAP Taiwan has opened its first-ever ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center in Kaohsiung, marking a significant step towards accelerating sustainable transformation in Taiwan. This center is set to drive digital transformation and AI-driven sustainability for local businesses, supporting them in achieving net-zero emissions and complying with global sustainability standards.
“Taiwan is an indispensable player in the global supply chain,“ stated Chen Zhiwei, SAP Global Vice President and General Manager for Taiwan. “Our goal with the new center is to integrate SAP’s advanced technologies to meet local needs for sustainable supply chain management and carbon reduction.“
The center has also launched Taiwan’s first SGS-confirmed greenhouse gas inventory solution, specifically designed for Taiwanese companies. This innovative solution aims to streamline the inventory process, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with the Ministry of Environment’s guidelines.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Net-zero carbon emissions are a global issue. The Kaohsiung City Government, through various initiatives like the Net Zero Academy and Yawan Smart Technology Innovation Park, is committed to supporting local businesses in their net-zero transformation journey.“
SAP’s new solutions leverage AI to enhance ESG reporting and carbon management. The AI-enabled tools allow companies to generate comprehensive reports in line with European standards, reducing manual efforts by 75%. Additionally, SAP’s generative AI capabilities help estimate carbon emissions and automate data mapping, cutting down on the time and costs associated with these processes by 80%.

Collaboration is a key focus of SAP’s new center. The company is partnering with local government, industry, and academic institutions, including National Cheng Kung University, to bridge the technology and talent gaps in sustainability. This partnership aims to develop a new generation of talent equipped to lead Taiwan’s green transformation.
According to IDC forecasts, global corporate spending on ESG and sustainability is expected to reach $65 billion by 2027. With its innovative solutions and strategic partnerships, SAP’s Kaohsiung ESG and AI Research and Innovation Center is well-positioned to help Taiwanese companies capitalize on these emerging opportunities in the global green economy.
