Schneider Electric’s Building Decarbonization Calculator Accelerates Net Zero Pathways

Decarbonization
Listen to this story:
  • New tool empowers building owners to assess energy and carbon-saving measures, aiding in net zero planning.
  • Over 500,000 building performance models simulate potential retrofits, providing tailored decarbonization paths.
  • Regulatory compliance and cost savings are prioritized, with tools estimating fines and ROI.

Schneider Electric has launched the Building Decarbonization Calculator, a powerful online tool designed to help building owners and operators identify their best retrofit options to reduce carbon emissions. With a growing focus on decarbonization, this tool allows users to quickly assess a range of Energy and Carbon Conservation Measures (ECCMs), helping them navigate complex choices while balancing costs and emissions.

As regulatory requirements tighten, especially in cities like New York and Boston, the Building Decarbonization Calculator supports compliance while driving operational improvements, said Mike Kazmierczak, Global VP of Digital Energy for Schneider Electric.

Key Features:

  • Rapid Assessments: Users can evaluate potential savings using pre-loaded data from 500,000 building models, allowing quick scenario testing.
  • Financial & Regulatory Insights: The tool helps assess ROI for retrofits, comparing decarbonization paths against potential fines from regulations like New York’s Local Law 97.
  • Prioritized Actions: Building owners can prioritize ECCMs based on carbon reduction and financial impact, with preset scenarios for light, medium, or deep renovations.

A recent retrofit in Boston demonstrated the tool’s effectiveness, estimating $3.7 million in energy savings and $1 million in avoided fines over the next decade, with a seven-year return on investment.
