Veolia has solidified its position as a leader in ecological transformation, earning validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its accelerated decarbonization goals. This recognition follows the company’s strategic GreenUp program launch, aiming to cut emissions drastically.
Veolia is the first company to receive dual validation of its climate commitments from both SBTi and Moody’s. SBTi praised Veolia’s net-zero ambition, calling it the most ambitious among tracked companies. Moody’s awarded Veolia an NZ-2 score, highlighting the quality and short-term implementation of its transition plan.
In 2023, Veolia eliminated 13.8 Mt of emissions, making it the first group to display erased emissions for Scope 4 clients. This effort supports global decarbonization of industrial and economic activities.
Veolia’s GreenUp program outlines:
- 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2032 by phasing out coal in Europe and capturing biogas at waste sites.
- 50% increase in erased emissions for clients (Scope 4) by 2030.
- Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
