Denham Capital, the global sustainable infrastructure, energy and resources focused investment firm, is proud to announce that Denham Sustainable Infrastructure (“Denham SI”) has been named Best ESG Investment Fund: Energy Transition at the ESG Investing Awards 2022, the world’s leading awards celebrating excellence in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) research, ratings, funds and products.

This award showcases the diligent work of the Denham SI team’s Sustainable Infrastructure Fund (fka DIPF), which focuses on low-cost sustainable power projects in markets where there is a fundamental need for new power generation. These projects are developed to stringent environmental and social standards, including the IFC Performance Standards, which means that Denham SI often requires its portfolio companies to complete more thorough environmental and social assessments than those required by national regulations. Key YE 2021 performance indicators for the Denham SI portfolio include 831MW of operational renewable energy projects, over 3100 GWh of clean energy sold, and over 1 million tonnes of CO2 savings (equivalent to offsetting the carbon emissions of 217,000 passenger vehicles in the US over a year).

This achievement also celebrates the integrated ESG processes Denham incorporates throughout the entire sustainable infrastructure investment cycle. In addition to the team’s in-house ESG Director, the company has recently formed an internal ESG Committee made up of senior management and an external climate specialist. Furthermore, Denham reports against the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) framework for Sustainable Infrastructure Fund (fka DIPF) and has scored above the GRESB benchmark average for the management component of the framework.

Justin DeAngelis, Partner and Co-Head of Denham Sustainable Infrastructure, says, “We are honored to have won this competitive award, which highlights Denham’s established commitment to investing in the energy transition. Denham’s vision of sustainable growth and long-term value creation is rooted in our ESG principles, and the Sustainable Infrastructure team will continue to implement industry leading ESG standards with careful consideration of our stakeholders. We are proud to have our robust ESG processes recognized by the ESG Investing Awards.”

Matthew Clements, editor of ESG Investing, comments, “This year we have received nearly double the number of nominations from 2021 and our judges have been asked to assess finalists of outstanding quality across all categories. We have also seen a blossoming of new ESG fund types as well as a considerable expansion in the quantity and scope of ESG research and product offerings. This is a trend that is set to continue as ESG becomes more embedded in investment mandates globally, and sustainability issues move to the forefront of investors’ priorities. Many thanks to all our judges and congratulations to our winners and finalists.”

The ESG Investing Awards, now in their third year, are judged by an independent panel of experts from industry and academia. The Awards celebrate the most impactful products, funds and initiatives that are making a positive contribution towards the integrity, uptake and success of ESG investing.
