(Jacksonville Daily Record) – Ikea, which sets up room galleries in its stores to show how its furniture and accessories can be arranged and used, opened a new shop Nov. 1 at its Jacksonville store.

The Sweden-based furniture company will open a “Sustainable Living Shop” inside the store at 7801 Gate Parkway at Interstate 295.

The company said the space will offer products, solutions, services, tips and advice “that support easy changes in everyday life.”

“The shop is designed so sustainability and affordability go hand-in-hand,” said Jamie Valet, Ikea Jacksonville communications and event specialist.

Valet said five “climate actions” are highlighted in the shop: Use less energy, create less waste; reuse it; use less water; and love it longer.

The shop will be near the Ikea restaurant and remain in operation indefinitely.

Valet said it will open in conjunction with Ikea’s partnership with the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which runs from Oct. 31 through Nov. 12, 2021.

She said Ikea has made a commitment to becoming climate positive by 2030 through reducing more greenhouse gas emissions. The shop will be in all U.S. and global Ikea stores.

Valet said Ikea also will offer discounts on sustainable products Nov. 26, the day after Thanksgiving, calling its version of Black Friday “Green Friday.”

Employees also will experience a new feature. Ikea is adding an automated salad vending machine in the store for its staff.

Valet said Ikea workers will be able to select which ingredients they want and be able to build their own salads via the vending machine.

Ikea, the world’s largest furniture seller, opened in Jacksonville in 2017.

Its focus is on saving costs by selling furniture that customers buy in flat-packs and assemble themselves.
