Nokia has launched a Private Wireless Sustainability Calculator to help industries measure the environmental and social benefits of private wireless networks. Initially designed for the mining, manufacturing, and port sectors, the tool quantifies how digitalization, powered by private networks, contributes to sustainability goals.

Sustainability Gains Through Digitalization

Nokia commissioned PwC UK to develop this tool, leveraging Nokia’s experience with over 760 industrial clients. Subho Mukherjee, Vice President of Sustainability at Nokia, highlights the potential: “To reach our climate goals, we need to speed up digital transformation through networking, AI, and cloud. Our new tool shows private wireless networks help businesses become more sustainable.

Private wireless networks drive reduced emissions, improved safety, and greater efficiency:

  • A GlobalData report revealed that 79% of enterprises saw a 10%+ reduction in emissions using Industry 4.0 solutions like drones and digital twins.
  • Chemical manufacturing plants utilizing private wireless experienced a 35% drop in health and safety incidents, saving EUR 1.4 million in societal costs.
  • Autonomous trucks powered by private networks led to 7% fuel savings and 10% operational efficiency gains.
