Senior Fellow at Bipartisan Policy Center Discusses Combatting Economic Crisis With Collaboration

Jim Lockhart, Senior Fellow at Bipartisan Policy Center on capital market, alternative and impact investing with Matt Bird at Greenwich Economic Forum (Greenwich, CT)

(ESG News) – The Bipartisan Policy Center is focused on a concept that can seem foreign in our nation’s capital: collaboration across the aisle.

“The whole idea is to get Democrats and Republicans together and work on a bipartisan solution,” Jim Lockhart, a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, told the Traders Network Show at the 2019 Greenwich Economic Forum. “What we are trying to do is promote bipartisan ideas, take them to Congress, and, hopefully, get them passed.”

One of the center’s biggest concerns is the deficit, including impending shortfalls in pensions and Social Security.

“I chaired a big commission on retirement security and personal savings, and we came up with a report that really is a blueprint of how we should solve our pension problems in the U.S. and also, very importantly, Social Security,” Lockhart said.

The takeaway is that working together leads to meaningful results. Lockhart says that collaboration should extend to private-public partnerships.

“I think it’s important to get private money in [to public spaces] and private-sector expertise.”
