BCBSA CFO Christina Fisher, Former NIKE COO Eric Sprunk join Providence board of directors

Providence, one of the largest health systems in the nation, announced Christina Fisher, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), and Eric Sprunk, former chief operating officer of Nike, Inc., will join its board of directors, effective immediately. The appointments underscore Providence’s commitment to reimagining the future of health care and achieving our vison of health for a better world.

Fisher is a strategic-thinking business leader and finance executive, adept at driving operational excellence and building high-performing teams. At BCBSA, she is responsible for the organization’s finance, governmental & national employee benefits administration, venture investing, information technology and information security functions. She brings the Providence board her broad business acumen and communication skills, and will serve as an independent member on the Audit & Compliance and Quality & Patient Safety committees.

“Christina is a wonderful addition to our board,” said Providence Board Chair, Mary Lyons. “In addition to her extensive experience and professional background, she is passionate about the Providence mission and has a long track record of advancing core commitments also shared by Providence – most notably her commitment to caring for the underserved and vulnerable by using her voice and vision in volunteer service with missions focused on empowering and improving opportunities for youth at risk.”

Prior to joining BCBSA, Fisher was the senior vice president and chief financial officer for the American Hospital Association, leading strategic alignment and operational transformation in finance, IT, meeting and travel services and facilities management. She holds a BSBA in Finance from Washington University, as well as an MBA in Strategy and Leadership from University of Notre Dame.

Sprunk has more than 25 years of experience in global business dedicated to driving digital transformation, creating best-in-class supply chain capabilities and developing and leading diverse leadership teams. He will serve as an independent member on both the Board’s Finance and Quality & Patient Safety committees.

“Eric has devoted much of his time and talent to promote and defend human dignity and the common good through his leadership to improve Environmental, Social, Corporate Governance (ESG) strategies while at Nike, as well as his own generous personal commitment to philanthropy. His extensive experience and alignment with Providence’s values will be a great asset as we continue to evolve into a more sustainable and digitally-advanced organization,” said Lyons.

Sprunk was recently appointed to the UN High Commission for Refugees’  Board of Directors and serves as a director on the board of General Mills, Bombardier and Olvin. He earned his BS in Accounting from University of Montana.
