Building a Resilient Lithium Supply Chain
Sigma Lithium has announced the shipment of 22,000 tonnes of its Quintuple Zero Green Lithium to International Resources Holding (IRH), Abu Dhabi’s official trading company. This shipment underscores Sigma’s commitment to ethical, low-carbon lithium production while expanding its partnerships with strong financial backers.
“We are delighted to begin a commercial alliance with Abu Dhabi’s IRH,” said Ana Cabral, CEO and Co-Chairperson of Sigma Lithium. “This alliance will offer a resilient supply of lithium materials that are an alternative to the prevailing opaque sourcing of lithium chemicals.”
Production and Shipment Excellence
In Q3 2024, Sigma achieved a record 60,237 tonnes of lithium concentrate production, a 22% increase over Q2 and above the target of 60,000 tonnes. The company also maintained consistent shipment patterns, including the recent 22,000-tonne delivery to IRH, which includes a 9,000-tonne sale concluded in September and an additional 13,000 tonnes booked for Q4.
The shipment price is provisionally set at 8.25% of the Guangzhou Futures Exchange (GFEX) battery-grade lithium carbonate price, reflecting Sigma’s flexible commercial strategies.
Ethical and Sustainable Lithium Supply
Sigma’s Quintuple Zero Green Lithium aligns with its vision to decarbonize global battery supply chains. Its ethical production practices, coupled with high metallurgical standards, provide significant cost savings for refineries while meeting the demands of environmentally conscious electric vehicle consumers.
“Sigma Lithium is creating a more resilient commercial operation focused on metallurgically unique and ethically sourced lithium materials, which should deliver superior price realizations over time,” Cabral added.
Strengthening Global Alliances
Sigma’s collaboration with IRH reinforces its strategy to diversify sales across geographies and clients while establishing a geoeconomically neutral supply chain. With Abu Dhabi’s increasing focus on battery metals, this alliance strengthens Sigma’s market position as a leading ethical lithium producer.
Looking Ahead
Sigma continues to execute its strategic initiatives, leveraging its operational excellence and partnerships to support the decarbonization of global battery supply chains. The company remains on track to meet annualized production capacity targets and expand its presence in the global lithium market.
