Travalyst Scales Sustainable Travel Efforts with Emissions Data for 65 Billion Flight Searches

Travalyst
  • Over 65 billion flight searches now show emissions data, empowering sustainable travel choices.
  • 47% of travelers prioritize sustainability, but 63% avoid researching it.
  • Major booking platforms like Google, Booking.com, and Expedia display lower-emission flight options at booking.

Travalyst has made flight emissions data more accessible than ever, scaling its information to appear in over 65 billion flight searches globally. This effort, led by the non-profit founded by Prince Harry, includes major booking platforms like Amadeus, Expedia, Google, and Skyscanner.

According to Travalyst research, 47% of travelers say sustainability is a priority when booking, but 63% admit they don’t want to spend time researching sustainable options. With Travalyst’s Travel Impact Model (TIM), developed by Google, emissions data now appears during flight searches, allowing travelers to choose flights with lower carbon footprints.

For example, on a London to New York flight, travelers can select an option with 12% lower emissions compared to the typical 466 kg CO2e per passenger. This difference is equivalent to the emissions of a flight from London to Dublin.

Sally Davey, CEO of Travalyst, emphasizes the value of having flight emissions data readily available. “When booking a trip, I need the right information at the right time. Thanks to Travalyst and our partners, travelers now have flight emissions estimates at their fingertips.”

The long-term goal is not only to help travelers make more sustainable choices but also to encourage airlines to reduce their climate impact. Sebnem Erzan, Global Head of Travel Sustainability Partnerships at Google, adds: “We want to help people better understand the environmental impact of their travel choices. Information on flight emissions is now more accessible and actionable.

While flying remains a significant source of carbon emissions, Travalyst’s efforts are a step toward more informed and responsible travel decisions.
