E.ON is launching the New Energy Academy, a free educational program designed to inspire and equip students with the skills to lead in the green economy.
Why it matters:
The initiative responds to growing demand for sustainability-focused careers. Research from E.ON found that 49% of people want to develop green skills, while 27% seek careers tackling climate change.
Beyond STEM:
The academy expands career pathways into sustainability, including marketing, AI, and data science. It highlights the crucial intersection of creativity, technology, and leadership in building a greener world.
“Our New Energy Academy is about more than education – it’s about empowerment,” said Scott Somerville, Director of External Affairs at E.ON UK. “We want young people to feel confident in their ability to lead the way to a new energy world.”

Real-world learning:
Students participate in dynamic activities like designing sustainable city prototypes and pitching ideas. Interactive videos from E.ON professionals illustrate how green careers impact climate solutions.

Teacher support:
Co-developed with educators, the program provides assemblies, PSHE lessons, and STEM materials aligned with Gatsby Benchmarks. With 49% of UK teachers lacking confidence in teaching sustainability, this initiative bridges the gap.
“We’ve just welcomed our 1,000th apprentice to E.ON and are proud to be building the green workforce needed for net zero,” said Naomi Furlonger, E.ON UK’s Early Careers Talent Consultant. “We hope this program will inspire young people and teachers about the rewards of green careers.”
Competition opportunity:
From March 3 to May 23, 2025, schools can enter a sustainability competition, with top entries winning a visit from Fara Williams MBE and a live green skills workshop by Hark.
The bottom line:
The New Energy Academy provides free, practical resources to prepare the next generation of sustainability leaders. With hands-on learning and real-world applications, E.ON is shaping a future-ready, green workforce.
